Democrat for County Commissioner

Nicholas Vander Veen's policies focus on building a better Kent County through education, affordable housing, infrastructure, and skilled trades training.

Education & Youth Development

Nick knows that a strong start in life sets the foundation for success. He is committed to smaller classrooms, better teacher pay, and robust early childhood development programs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Affordable Housing & Sustainability

Nick believes that everyone deserves a place to call home. He will work to expand affordable housing and promote sustainable practices, such as increased recycling and reduced landfilling and creation of dedicated green spaces to protect our environment, water, and our future.

Infrastructure & Accessibility

In a growing and vibrant Kent County, Nick understands the importance of connectivity. He is passionate about expanding public transit to reduce congestion and ease parking pressure, with an eye on potential light rail options in the future, and bringing affordable, high-speed internet to all residents through municipal broadband and using federal funds to help homeowners enjoy renewable energy or improved HVAC systems.

Skilled Trades Training & Organized Labor

Nick is committed to strengthening our local economy by promoting skilled trades and organized labor. He will work with local schools, community colleges, and unions to expand training programs and create good-paying jobs that support families and build a stronger community.
